Former White House aide Gabe Amo won the Democratic primary.
On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Democratic and Republican special primary elections were held for Rhode Island's 1st congressional district. The seat became vacant after incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative David Cicilline resigned from office on May 31, 2023. Former White House aide Gabe Amo won the Democratic special primary and Gerry Leonard. Jr. won the Republican special primary. The general special election will be held on November 7, 2023.
